Now you wake up early in the valley
And the strings are getting loose
There’s people up and walking around

There’s a songbird and a wooden whistle
Someone playing a mandolin
The sun is barely above the corn
And there’s angels singing in the wind

The county cops came out to warn us all
Told us to head on up for the church
Some of us went on runnin’
And some of us just hit the dirt
